Craps is a casino game that is thought to be complicated due to its unfamiliar terminology. In truth, once you master the terminology and understand the betting process, the game itself is not so difficult to master. Approximately twenty players can play at one time. Players bet on the outcome of the dice rolls.
Starting to Play All players stand around a table that is symmetrical in that both sides contain the same bets. The person who throws the dice is known as the shooter and the first dice that they roll are known as the "Come Out Roll." When the shooter throws the dice, both dice must hit the back wall of the table. Placing Bets Before the shooter throws the come out roll, all players must place "Pass Line" bets. The outcome of the pass line bet depends on the come out roll. If the come out roll is a 7 or 11, the pass line bet will be an instant winner. If the come out roll is a 2, 3 or 12, the pass line bet will be an instant loser. If any of the remaining numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) are rolled, they become known as the point number. The shooter must then continue to roll the dice until either the point number comes up again or the number 7 comes up. If the point number comes up before the seven, then all pass line bets win. If the 7 comes up before the point number, then all pass line bets lose. A new shooter will start the next game if the previous shooter did not throw a winning roll. Other Craps Bets There are a number of other bets that can be placed at the craps table. - "Don't Come" bet is the reverse of a come bet. After the point has been established, you will lose if a 7 or 11 is rolled and win if a 2 or 3 is rolled. 12 is a tie with the casino. On subsequent rolls, you will only win if a seven is rolled before the come point.
- "Don't Pass Line" bets are the opposite of pass line bets. If the come out roll is a 7 or 11, you lose, while if it is a 2 or 3, you win. A roll of 12 indicates a tie with the casino. If a seven is rolled before a come point you win, while if the point is rolled before the seven, you lose.
- "Place" bets can be made after the come point has been determined. You can bet on a specific number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) and will win if that number is rolled before a seven; otherwise, you lose.
- "Field" bets are placed on a single roll. You win if a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or12 is rolled and you lose if a 5, 6, 7 or 8 is rolled.
- "Big Six" and "Big Eight" bets can be placed at any roll of the dice. These bets win if a six or eight is rolled before a seven.
You can also place a number of proposition bets that can be placed at any time on one roll of the dice. |
