Game Selection

Lucky Nugget Casino is a member of the popular Microgaming group, and as such they have a plethora of games available to them. They currently offer just over 300 games, which is a truly incredible number. It’s pretty hard to imagine a land-based casino with over 300 game variations that can support any number of players simultaneously! Unfortunately, as is usually the case with Microgaming, these games are rarely unique or innovative in any way. They essentially take 2-3 standard variants and then give them different names, graphics and sounds in order to make them “distinct”, but it’s not fooling anyone. That’s not to say there aren’t a wide variety of games available, because there is – it’s just that you’re likely to get bored of the repetitiveness after 6-7 games, making other dozens of variants pretty useless to you. If you’re not expecting anything beyond a change of graphics in your games, then you should thoroughly enjoy the offerings at Lucky Nugget; if you have more selective taste and expect more from your online casino, seek your entertainment elsewhere.

Bonuses & Promotions

The deposit bonuses offered at Lucky Nugget are undoubtedly targeted toward low-budget, low-roller players who don’t have much of a bankroll. Their first option is actually a no-deposit bonus; instead, you get 1,000 “Free Play” credits that let you wager in any of their games for 1 full hour. Any winnings over 1,000 (but under 1,050 – more on this later) are deposited into your account, where they’re converted to your currency (so 50 points become $50.00). As mentioned, though, any earnings over 1,050 don’t get transferred; they cap your bonus at 50. So even if you wound up with 2,000 free play points at the end of the hour, you’d only get the $50 bonus. It should also be noted that the free bonus money can only be earned by gambling with money you deposit, and that you have to wager 30x your bonus in order to be able to cash it out. If the free play bonus doesn’t appear to you because you’ve got some money to deposit, Lucky Nugget also offers a 100%, $50 match bonus –  their “Buy 50, Get 50” promotion. Note that unlike most casinos, you must deposit at least the full $50 to receive any bonus – you can’t deposit $25 and expect a $25 bonus. In addition, while they have a fairly low-end wagering requirement (30x bonus), betting on many popular games like roulette, baccarat, craps and more will not count towards meeting their play through requirements. This means that only those who play the few games that apply towards your bonus earnings will be able to enjoy the bonus money. They also have a loyalty program and regular monthly bonuses that aren’t too bad, though they have the same wagering requirements as the other bonuses. Unfortunately, they just don’t do nearly as much to increase your cash as competing casinos do, but their slightly above-average wager requirements for certain games and no-deposit free play bonus makes this casino a good choice for the right type of player.

Software

Lucky Nugget Casino runs on the Microgaming casino platform, which is one of the oldest and most prolific software providers in the industry. Microgaming is best known for several things: their casinos tend to have a very large number (200+) of fairly generic casino games, they have an excellent support team, and they were among the first to suddenly bail on the US market when put under pressure by the UIGEA. In addition, Microgaming has some of the best security systems available in place for all their casinos. For Lucky Nugget’s own version, they’ve added some fairly decent looking graphics that are on par with most other online casinos. The sound effects can be annoying, depending on the game; it’s usually a better idea to mute it altogether. Mac users are out of luck as the software is PC-only, though anyone can take advantage of their browser-based Flash casino. The Flash version doesn’t have anywhere near the capabilities or game selection that the downloadable version does, however, though it’s perfect for gamers on the go or those who are unable (or unwilling) to install new software. Lucky Nugget makes pretty good use of Microgaming’s resources overall, but it doesn’t provide anything new or interesting that might make this a strong point.

Support & Service

Perhaps the place where Lucky Nugget is strongest, thanks in no small part to Microgaming’s very high standards, the 24/7 support system here is top-notch. They’ve got the standard email support, where inquiries are answered extremely fast – often within an hour of when you send it. It’s rare to have a question go unanswered for more than 12 hours, and almost unheard of not to receive a response in more than 24 hours. Their live chat support is always available, and it takes very little time for an agent to reply to your chat request. Finally, they offer phone support, which is toll free in the UK and Canada. For customers outside of these regions, you’ll have to pay normal long-distance fees to dial their international number. The UK and Canada phone numbers have extremely knowledgeable and helpful operators who can help resolve your issues quickly over the phone. Their international number is less reliable; sometimes you get the same high-quality support that the toll-free numbers do, but other times you get people who don’t speak the same language or simply don’t understand even the most basic questions. Rather than call their international number, it’s highly recommended that you first try getting help via chat or email first. Deposits and withdrawals are both handled in a timely fashion, though Lucky Nugget doesn’t make sending out your money their highest priority. They are highly reliable and trustworthy, though they do have a history of folding easily to government pressure.

Summary

Lucky Nugget Casino just can’t measure up to the competition. With so many other casinos available offering much better features and rewards, it’s hard to understand why Lucky Nugget hasn’t put more of its focus into providing a quality product. Their massive game selection is impressive, but unfortunately marred by repetition and redundancy. Microgaming used to have one of the best reputations in the industry, but unfortunately their actions after the UIGEA gambling law have tarnished that somewhat. Their promotional efforts aren’t very impressive, either, which severely limits the market of customers who would prefer this casino over one of our top online casinos. Their customer support is great, but no more than any other Microgaming casino. In short, you can find much better places to play at without much effort – we recommend passing on Lucky Nugget while better options are available.
